Rex Omar says government has secured over $200m to build a film studio in Ghana

Rex Omar Announces $200 Million for Ananse Studio in Ghana

On May 1, 2025, Rex Omar announced plans for a film studio in Ghana. He made this announcement during the Blackstar Experience launch at the Freedom and Justice Monument in Accra.

Rex Omar is a presidential staffer for the Blackstar Experience. This initiative aims to promote tourism, arts, and culture in Ghana. He confirmed that $200 million has been secured for Ananse Studios.

The Blackstar Experience Secretariat will oversee this significant investment. The project includes a Hollywood-standard film studio and educational facilities. A groundbreaking ceremony is expected later this year.

In addition to the film studio, various events will be hosted. These include exhibition football matches with legends and Ghana's national team. There will also be celebrations for Ghana Music Week and an annual meeting called Creative Connect.

The initiative aims to foster collaborations with international organizations. One partnership is with a group in Atlanta that celebrates Blackstar Week annually. Rex Omar emphasized that this experience showcases Ghanaian talents and creative products.

The Blackstar Experience focuses on seven key pillars: cinema, audio, cuisine, aesthetics, style, literature, and heritage. Rex Omar stated that the goal is to rebrand Ghana as a top tourist destination.

President John Dramani Mahama attended the launch of the Black Star Experience. He spoke about the project's vision while dressed stylishly for the event. Farida Mahama and her brothers also made fashion statements at the launch.

Joyce Bawah, a presidential aide, was present along with the CEO of the National Film Authority. President Mahama expressed his intention to attend Ghana Fashion Week in July 2025 with local models to showcase design talent.

This initiative marks an important step towards enhancing Ghana's cultural capital status in Africa.
