Ghana's Santrofi band urges the youth to embrace highlife music to preserve its legacy.
In an interview with Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz, they stressed the genre’s cultural importance, warning it may vanish as older generations pass.
Highlife, which emerged in the 1920s, once defined Ghana's music scene but is being overshadowed by foreign genres like afrobeat and hip hop.
The band believes highlife can evolve while maintaining its originality.
UNESCO is considering designating highlife as Ghana’s intangible heritage by 2025.
Led by Emmanuel Ofori, Santrofi is known internationally for their dynamic performances at festivals worldwide, promoting Ghanaian highlife on a global stage.
