Ghana marked its 68th Independence Day with a colorful celebration at the Jubilee House in Accra, instead of the usual grand event at Black Star Square. The day commemorates Ghana’s freedom from British colonial rule on March 6, 1957, led by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
This year’s scaled-down celebration was attended by President John Mahama, Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, former Presidents Akufo-Addo and Kufuor, the former President of Tanzania, and other dignitaries.
The theme, “Reflect, Review, Reset,” highlighted the importance of assessing Ghana’s journey and planning for the future. Unlike past celebrations with large public participation, this event was restricted to invited guests within the Jubilee House compound, symbolizing a more introspective approach to Ghana’s progress and national development.
