The Seychelles commemorated the 100th anniversary of Asantehene Nana Agyeman Prempeh I’s return from exile with The King in Exile exhibition.
Opened on November 11 by President Wavel Ramkalawan, it celebrated Prempeh’s resilience and legacy during his 28-year exile and his embrace of Christianity.
Curated by historian Ivor Agyeman-Duah and others, the exhibition highlighted Prempeh’s impact, Yaa Asantewaa’s leadership in the 1900 Anglo-Asante War, and Ghana-Seychelles cultural ties.
Ghana’s High Commissioner, Francisca Ashietey-Odunton, announced a follow-up celebration in Kumasi from November 22-24.
Featuring Kente textiles, the exhibition offered a deep dive into Asante heritage, honoring Prempeh’s enduring influence on Asante identity and cultural preservation.
