Afua Asantewaa O. Aduonum has been disqualified again by Guinness World Records (GWR). This is her second disqualification for not following guidelines during her singing record attempt.
GWR informed Afua via email that she did not adhere to rest break rules. Their Record Managers reviewed the evidence and deemed her record claim invalid. They stated, “Rest breaks are the only point where the claimant may stop performing.”
The rules allow for five minutes of rest for every hour of activity. However, Afua took a 15-minute break when she had only five minutes available. Later, she took a 105-minute break when she had just ten minutes of accrued rest time.
Due to these violations, GWR declared her record attempt failed. They emphasized that records can only be approved if all rules are followed. The email concluded with congratulations on her efforts and an explanation for the disqualification.
This marks Afua's second disqualification from GWR, sparking reactions from Ghanaians and fans alike. After her first disqualification, she started another marathon singing session on December 21, 2024.
This event took place at Heroes' Park in Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi. She finished on December 26, after singing for 121 hours and 39 minutes. Her goal was to beat the existing record of 105 hours set by Indian singer Sunil Waghmare in 2012.
During the five days, the 34-year-old media personality performed over 200 songs. These songs showcased various Ghanaian genres like gospel, highlife, afrobeat, and hiplife.
