Smokey Robinson files $500m case against rape accusers

Motown legend Smokey Robinson has filed a $500 million defamation lawsuit. He is suing four former housekeepers who accused him of sexual assault. The lawsuit was filed by Robinson and his wife, Frances, in California.

The couple claims the women fabricated their allegations for an "extortionate" lawsuit. They say the alleged victims went on family holidays with them and celebrated holidays together.

Robinson is also under criminal investigation in Los Angeles for sexual assault accusations. He denies all allegations and says those making the claims want his money. His lawyers have filed a motion to dismiss the women's lawsuit, arguing they should not remain anonymous.

The lawsuit states, "The Robinsons did not abuse or harm plaintiffs." It emphasizes that they treated the women with kindness and generosity. The women filed their case anonymously in Los Angeles Superior Court on May 6.

In their 27-page legal action, they allege incidents dating back to 2006. They accuse Robinson of pressuring them into sex during that time. All four women are of Hispanic descent and did not come forward sooner due to fear of losing jobs or facing embarrassment.

Some were worried about how the allegations could affect their immigration status. They are seeking at least $50 million in damages and a jury trial.

Following these allegations, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department opened an investigation. Robinson welcomed this investigation, stating that "exposure to the truth is a powerful thing."

Smokey Robinson was Motown's first hitmaker, writing iconic songs like "My Guy" and "My Girl." He served as both a talent scout and prominent recording artist for Motown. His famous songs include "Tracks of My Tears," "Shop Around," and "Tears of a Clown."

Robinson has been inducted into both the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. He claims credits on more than 4,000 songs throughout his career.
