South African actor John Kani attributes the quality gap between African and foreign films about African stories to inadequate funding.
In an interview, he noted that limited budgets hinder African filmmakers from fully exploring the continent’s rich cultures and landscapes.
Kani urged wealthy Africans to invest in the local film industry to help it grow and compete globally.
He emphasized the need for African films to be produced on "our terms," reflecting the continent's significance as the cradle of humanity.
Additionally, he called for the creation of learning spaces to nurture young filmmakers and improve production quality.
Kani, known for roles in Black Panther and The Lion King, believes African cinema can rival global standards with proper support and collaboration.
