Ghanaian Afro-Spiritual artiste, Enam Keteku Angela, known professionally as Enam, has urged fellow musicians to prioritize cultural authenticity over Western influences in their music.
Speaking to Graphic Showbiz, Enam expressed concern over the growing trend of Ghanaian artistes, especially emerging ones, adopting foreign styles rather than developing unique Ghanaian sounds.
“We must represent our country with truly Ghanaian creations. We can never be more American than the Americans. We can mimic them, but we cannot be them,” she stated.
As the founder of the Afro-Spiritual music genre, Enam emphasized the deep spiritual essence of indigenous sounds, describing them as a powerful connection to ancestral heritage.
According to her, the beats of atumpan, fontomfrom, gongon, and other traditional instruments carry the voices of the past, echoing the struggles and resilience of ancestors.
Beyond her advocacy, Enam has built a strong reputation for electrifying performances, gracing major platforms such as Ghana’s Most Beautiful, the 3Music Awards, Detty Rave, and Black Sherif’s Zama Disco show, among others.
She also announced an upcoming album, which she describes as the first-ever “spiritual album” in history, designed to uplift and heal through Afro-Spiritual sounds.
“This is the ‘new gospel’ for the world,” she declared.
