Sue Medikal for more than Ghc15M – Stonebwoy’s PRO tells Alabaster Box

Vida Adutwumwaa is the Public Relations Officer for Stonebwoy. She has advised the music group Alabaster Box to sue Medikal for more money.

Alabaster Box has already sued Medikal for copyright infringement. They claim he sampled their song "Akwaaba" in his new track, "Welcome to Africa."

The gospel group is seeking GHS 15 million in damages from Medikal. They argue that the first ten seconds of his song are based on their original work.

Alabaster Box holds exclusive copyright to "Akwaaba" in Ghana and the UK. They have invested significantly in promoting their song and brand worldwide.

They also claim that Medikal's track includes profanity and vulgarity. This, they say, has harmed their image and goodwill.

The group is requesting GHS 10 million for copyright infringement. They also want GHS 5 million as exemplary damages for intentional infringement.

They believe this infringement damaged their brand association with vulgarity. The plaintiffs want the court to make Medikal account for all earnings from his track.

They also want the song removed from all digital platforms. Although Medikal removed part of the track from YouTube, it remains on other platforms like Audiomack and Spotify.

Alabaster Box sees this partial removal as disrespectful and an admission of guilt. The case will be heard at the High Court of Justice in Accra soon.

Vida Adutwumwaa spoke about this issue on UTV. She noted that some think Alabaster Box's demands are excessive, but she disagrees.

She believes they deserve a stronger response due to Medikal's disrespectful actions. Vida suggested they could even ask for more than GHS 15 million if needed.
