Sum 41 music agent among those killed in San Diego plane crash

Prominent music agent Dave Shapiro was killed in a plane crash in San Diego. His talent agency confirmed the news.

Shapiro co-founded Sound Talent Group. The agency represents rock bands like Sum 41 and Pierce the Veil.

Daniel Williams, former drummer for The Devil Wears Prada, is also feared dead. Reports say he posted on social media from the plane.

Federal officials state six people were on board. All are presumed dead after the crash destroyed one home and damaged ten others.

A spokesman for Sound Talent Group expressed their devastation. They said, "Our hearts go out to their families." The company lost three employees in the crash but did not name them.

San Diego authorities confirmed at least two fatalities. However, the National Transportation Safety Board is still investigating and has not released names.

The Cessna 550 aircraft crashed around 3:45 PM local time. Such planes can carry up to ten people, including a pilot.

Shapiro was an avid pilot and certified flight instructor with 15 years of experience. He owned an aviation company called Velocity Aviation.

Williams posted several Instagram stories before the crash. One showed him with Shapiro in the co-pilot seat next to him.

The post included the flight number that matched the crashed plane's number. Williams was a founding member of The Devil Wears Prada until 2016.

The band shared photos of Williams on Instagram after hearing about the crash. Their post read, "no words. We owe you everything."

The crash led to about 100 evacuations from nearby homes northeast of San Diego. Eight people on the ground were injured; one required hospitalization.

Elliot Simpson from the NTSB reported details about the flight's path. The plane left New Jersey late Wednesday night and stopped in Wichita to refuel.

Simpson noted that it hit two power lines before crashing into the neighborhood. He stated it’s too early to determine if this caused the accident.

NTSB investigators found fragments of the aircraft under power lines and a wing nearby. Assistant Fire Department Chief Dan Eddy described debris scattered everywhere at the scene.

Local resident Christopher Moore heard a loud bang early Thursday morning. He saw smoke outside his window and fled with his family when they noticed flames engulfing a car.

Another marine living near the site reported hearing strange noises followed by an explosion that shook his house.

The aircraft appeared to be heading toward Montgomery Field airport, located six miles north of downtown San Diego.
