The Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) Board has clarified why King Paluta’s hit “Makoma” failed to earn a nomination, addressing public concerns and speculation.
According to Robert Klah, Head of Communications at Charterhouse, the decision wasn’t due to profanity, as some had alleged.
Instead, the Board followed a key rule allowing only one song per artist per category—except for a few like Best Collaboration and Best Music Video.
Between “Aseda” and “Makoma”, the Board chose “Aseda” based on data from streaming platforms and 175 radio stations, showing it had wider popularity.
This one-song rule, first applied in 2016, is being strictly enforced again this year.
Organizers believe it prevents vote-splitting and boosts artists’ chances of winning, as seen in a similar case involving Bisa Kdei.
