Renowned actor Kwaku Manu has voiced concerns over the declining state of Ghana's movie industry and urged Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, MP for Ketu South and former Deputy Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, to take urgent steps to revive it.
Speaking on Hitz FM with Dr. Slim, Kwaku Manu highlighted the industry's struggles, including inadequate funding, lack of government support, and limited distribution channels.
He lamented the loss of vibrancy in the sector, which once provided jobs, promoted Ghanaian culture, and entertained millions. According to the actor, addressing these challenges will not only revitalize the industry but also attract young talents and international collaboration.
Kwaku Manu emphasized that Hon. Gomashie, with her vast experience and deep passion for the arts, is well-positioned to spearhead the transformation. He called for comprehensive policies to address funding gaps, provide training for actors and filmmakers, and create platforms for showcasing Ghanaian content globally.
The actor also urged stakeholders, including producers, directors, and investors, to unite and support initiatives aimed at restoring the industry to its former glory. He expressed optimism that with collaboration and strategic leadership, Ghana’s movie industry can regain its position as a thriving cultural and economic force.
