“The revolution will be televised”: Sarkodie backs Mahama’s bold Africa speech

Sarkodie Supports President Mahama's Call for Africa to Control Resources

On May 6, 2025, Sarkodie endorsed President John Dramani Mahama’s call for Africa to reclaim its resources. The rapper shared a video of Mahama’s speech on social media. This speech was delivered at the Executive Leadership Retreat Programme (ELRP) in Ada, Greater Accra Region.

In his speech, President Mahama urged African leaders to use their resources for development. He criticized foreign powers for exploiting these resources and leaving Africans impoverished. He stated that Africa must take advantage of its natural wealth.

Sarkodie expressed excitement about the president's message. He referred to it as a "revolution" in his social media post. His caption read: “The revolution will be televised.”

Recently, Sarkodie also supported Burkina Faso’s military leader Ibrahim Traoré. Traoré has gained popularity among youth in Ghana and across Africa for his leadership.

Sarkodie has been vocal about African unity and resource management. In his 2020 song "Brown Paper Bag," he emphasized using local resources instead of relying on foreign aid.

Historically, Sarkodie has shared political opinions through his music. During Mahama's first term, he criticized rising inflation and power issues in Ghana. However, he faced backlash for not speaking out during former President Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration when economic problems worsened.

Some perceived him as supporting the New Patriotic Party (NPP) after releasing "Happy Day" with Kuami Eugene before the 2020 elections.

Reactions to Sarkodie's endorsement varied on social media. One user said, “Sarkodie is not a partisan candidate; he loves Ghana.” Another commented positively about joining the “reset Ghana train.” However, some accused him of seeking validation due to changing political tides.

Earlier, Sarkodie joked about needing GH¢3,850 to reach GH¢25,000 in his bank account. This comment followed Bishop Samuel Owusu's claim that young adults should have this amount saved by age 25.
