Ghanaian filmmaker Kafui Danku is the Executive Secretary of the National Film Authority. She recently addressed a petition aimed at revoking her appointment.
The petition, found on change.org, was created by a group called Association of Ghana Creatives. They urged President John Dramani to consider other candidates for the position.
The group claimed that Kafui and her Deputy, James Gardiner, lack the necessary skills.
On Joy FM's Showbiz A-Z, Kafui responded to the petition. She told host Kwame Dadzie that she was not worried about it.
"When I saw it, I called James," she said. "He laughed and told me to sleep."
Kafui believes those behind the petition may not be from their industry. She expressed surprise that such a request was made.
Kafui has been in office for about a month. Since then, she has engaged with film industry stakeholders to establish her administration's foundation.
She is optimistic about revitalizing Ghana's film industry.
In interviews, she often discusses key issues like funding and distribution. "We want to work towards getting the film fund," she stated.
Kafui also announced that film practitioners should register with the authority for licensing purposes. This will help classify their films properly.
