Tory Lanez hospitalized after violent prison attack during 10-year sentence

Canadian rapper Tory Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, was attacked in prison.

This incident happened on May 12, 2025, at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi.

Lanez was ambushed by another inmate during morning yard time. He suffered up to 14 stab wounds to his back, face, head, and torso.

The attack caused both of his lungs to collapse. Authorities acted quickly and airlifted him to a hospital in Bakersfield for emergency treatment. Fortunately, he is now stable and breathing on his own.

Lanez is serving a 10-year sentence for the 2020 shooting of rapper Megan Thee Stallion. He has always maintained his innocence during the trial. However, he was found guilty on three felony counts, including assault with a semiautomatic firearm.

The motive for the attack remains unclear. Prison officials have started an investigation into the incident. Both the prison’s Investigative Services Unit and the Kern County District Attorney’s Office are involved.

Despite being incarcerated, Lanez continues to make music. His latest album, *Peterson*, released from prison in 2025, reached number 25 on the US Billboard 200.

Authorities have not yet released details about the inmate who attacked him. Concerns are growing about prison security and the safety of high-profile inmates like Lanez.
