The Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, Dzifa Gomashie, has launched "Accra by Night." This initiative aims to promote Ghana’s cultural vibrancy and nightlife economy. It also seeks to enhance tourism potential after dark.
The Ghana Tourism Authority organized the event with the Ministry of Tourism. Other agencies collaborated as well. This initiative aligns with President John Dramani Mahama’s vision for a 24-hour economy.
"Accra by Night" will energize the tourism and creative sectors. It will showcase Ghana’s rich traditions, hospitality, and entertainment at night. Minister Gomashie stated that it would create new opportunities for artists and service providers.
She highlighted the importance of Ghanaian music, cuisine, and warmth. “This is not just about nightlife,” she said. “It is about creating economic opportunity and celebrating our culture.”
The experience will include live music, local food, and scenic views of Accra. It mirrors the excitement of past "Accra by Night" concerts at the University of Ghana's Great Hall.
Minister Gomashie emphasized innovation in the creative sector. She urged creatives and entrepreneurs to join this journey. Attendees were encouraged to share their experiences using a dedicated hashtag.
The launch included a nighttime tour of Accra’s central business district. Hundreds explored the vibrant evening atmosphere and interacted with local vendors. They observed how businesses thrive after dark.
"Accra by Night" is seen as a major step for Ghana’s tourism offerings. Stakeholders believe it could boost job creation and economic growth in the capital. The initiative aims to foster a more dynamic urban culture in Accra and beyond.
