Twene Jonas Mocks Chairman Wontumi After National Security Raid
On May 23, a team of National Security operatives and police raided the home of NPP's Ashanti Region Chairman, Wontumi. They executed a search warrant due to allegations of illegal mining in Ghana's forest reserves.
US-based commentator Twene Jonas laughed at Wontumi after he nearly cried on the radio discussing the raid. Many Ghanaians are mocking him on social media as well.
Wontumi’s estate was surrounded by National Security personnel and police officers. Supporters from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) confronted them, creating a tense situation.
The officers eventually withdrew, and Wontumi was ordered to appear before the Police CID in Accra on May 26. Following the raid, he called for NPP supporters to help him fight what he termed political persecution.
In an emotional plea, Wontumi asked if he was no longer considered Ghanaian. He urged Ghanaians to rise up against his treatment by President Mahama.
Twene Jonas mocked Wontumi for crying after being raided. He pointed out that Wontumi had previously boasted about his power but was now reduced to tears.
Jonas stated that Mahama fears him more than Wontumi. He criticized Wontumi’s call for support, saying many farmers suffered due to his alleged involvement in illegal mining.
He highlighted how galamsey destroyed livelihoods in the Ashanti Region. Many families who farmed cocoa for generations are now struggling because of Wontumi's actions.
Ghanaians reacted positively to Jonas’ comments on Instagram. One user noted how Wontumi once flaunted wealth but is now crying.
Another user expressed agreement with Jonas' sentiments about Wontumi's current situation.
Earlier, MP Kwame A Plus also mocked Chairman Wontumi online regarding his legal troubles and current predicament. His post received mixed reactions from followers, some supporting him while others found it distasteful.
