Twerking has nothing to do with borborbor – Efadzinam Borborbor Band

The Efadzinam Borborbor Band is clarifying misconceptions about traditional dances in Ghana.

Lizabeth Akusika Bada, the band’s Public Relations Officer, spoke on the EVIBES Musical Band Series with Becky. She addressed the false association of Borborbor with twerking.

Lizabeth emphasized the importance of respecting Ghana’s cultural heritage. She explained that Borborbor involves waist movements but is rooted in tradition and community celebration. It is not a sensual or provocative dance style.

“Twerking has nothing to do with Borborbor,” she stated. “Borborbor is a cultural dance passed down to us.” She noted that other dances, like Kpanlogo, are more seductive.

Her comments stress the need to honor traditional dances like Borborbor. This dance is significant to the Ewe people of Ghana’s Volta Region. It features vibrant drum rhythms and graceful movements, symbolizing unity and identity—not sensuality.
