**Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah Arrested by Police**
Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah, a former host of Angel FM's morning show, has been arrested. The Cyber Crime Unit of the Ghana Police Service took him into custody on Tuesday, March 25, 2025. News of his arrest spread quickly on social media. This led to public condemnation and calls for his release.
Details about the arrest are still unclear. However, Moses Abor, the Greater Accra Regional Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), confirmed it. The reason for Okatakyie's arrest is not known yet. He has been a vocal critic of the John Mahama government since it took office in January.
Recently, Okatakyie announced plans for a protest called the "Stop Galamsey Demo." This protest targets the government's handling of illegal mining issues.
This is not Okatakyie's first arrest this week. He was previously detained by National Security operatives on Wednesday, March 19, 2025. That incident occurred near Kingsby Hotel at Achimota after he finished an exam at GIMPA.
Following his latest arrest, NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong and National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye condemned the action online. They rallied support to help secure his release. Hours later, Nana B announced that Okatakyie had been released and shared photos online.
The news sparked significant reactions across social media platforms. A campaign to free him began immediately with many showing solidarity through posts and images. One user stated that Ghana’s Constitution guarantees freedom of speech and expression. Another noted that Okatakyie's detention seemed linked to his planned demonstration against galamsey activities in the country.
