More than two million people attended a free Lady Gaga concert. The event took place on Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro. City officials organized the concert to boost the local economy. They expect it could generate $100 million (£75 million) for the area.
The performance was part of a promotional tour for her eighth album, *Mayhem*. This album features songs like "Abracadabra" and "Die With a Smile." Lady Gaga last performed in Brazil in 2012.
Fans, known as Gaga's "Little Monsters," queued early to enter the beach. Many waited in long lines for access to the concert. A massive security operation was in place for safety.
Five thousand police officers were on duty during the event. Attendees passed through metal detectors upon arrival. Authorities also used drones and facial recognition cameras to monitor the crowd.
Lady Gaga is not the first artist to perform a free concert in Rio. Madonna held a similar concert on Copacabana beach in May 2024, funded by the city.
As she addressed the crowd, an emotional Lady Gaga said, “You waited for me.” She added, “You waited for more than 10 years for me.” Unfurling a Brazilian flag, she declared, “Brazil, I’m ready. I’m going to give it my all.”
During her performance, she wore Brazil-themed costumes inspired by the national football team. Thousands sang along with her hits like "Alejandro," "Poker Face," and "Abracadabra." Fans waved rainbow-themed fans while watching on huge screens along the beach.
People traveled from across Brazil to see this grand performance.
