U.S. singer Chris Brown was granted bail by a London court on Wednesday. He faces a charge of serious assault. He promised to pay a security fee of 5 million pounds ($6.7 million). This allows his world tour to start next month.
Brown is charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm. Prosecutors say he attacked music producer Abraham Diaw with a tequila bottle in 2023. They describe the incident as an "unprovoked attack."
The 36-year-old has not yet entered a plea for the charge. He was not present at Southwark Crown Court when Judge Tony Baumgartner granted bail.
Brown is a two-time Grammy Award winner known for hits like "Loyal" and "Run It." His "Breezy Bowl XX" tour begins on June 8 in the Netherlands.
He was arrested last week at a hotel in Manchester, England. This was his first return to Britain since the incident two years ago. Initially, he was refused bail on Friday but received it on Wednesday.
He must pay 4 million pounds upfront and another 1 million pounds within seven days. Brown also has to surrender his passport, except when traveling for his tour.
His next court appearance is scheduled for June 20 at Southwark Crown Court.
