Van Vicker Praises President Mahama for Cedi Stabilization
Ghanaian actor Van Vicker has praised President John Dramani Mahama. He commended the President for stabilizing the Ghanaian cedi.
On May 28, 2025, he posted on Facebook. He urged Ghanaians to recognize the cedi's appreciation against the dollar.
“Mr. President, I must congratulate you on the strengthening of the Ghana cedis on the world market. Ayekoo,” he wrote.
He mentioned theories explaining the cedi's better performance. “The true reason could be a combination of these theories,” he said.
However, he noted that today, the cedi is about GHC 11 to $1. Just months ago, it was around GHC 17 to $1.
Van Vicker criticized some Ghanaians abroad for being unhappy with this change. “This is not a political statement,” he clarified. “It’s an acknowledgment of a good job done.”
He emphasized giving credit where it's due. He expressed optimism about the cedi's current stability.
“I think this orbit is remarkable for Ghana,” he stated. He also joked about wanting to return to 2007 levels.
In another development, highlife artist Kuami Eugene has made a request to President Mahama. He asked him to slow down the cedi's appreciation against the dollar.
In his social media post, Kuami expressed concern over his dollar reserves dwindling. “We beg Pres. John Mahama for slow down small; my dollar reserves all dey go waste,” he wrote.
Despite this concern, he acknowledged feeling both happy and sad about the situation. “I’m happy and sad at the same time,” he added.
