Chairman Wontumi Rushed to Hospital After EOCO Interrogation
Chairman Wontumi, owner of Akonta Mining, fell ill during his interrogation. This occurred on Tuesday, May 27, 2025. A video shared by blogger The 1957 News shows him being taken to a hospital in a convoy.
Many Ghanaians were surprised by his sudden illness. They speculated about the ongoing case with EOCO. The video went viral after showing Wontumi leaving the Economic and Organised Crime (EOCO) headquarters in Accra.
The footage captured him being escorted away in five pickup trucks. He had undergone about six hours of questioning before this incident.
Wontumi's lawyer, Andy Appiah Kubi, spoke to the media afterward. He said his client became unwell during the intense interrogation. Kubi mentioned that Wontumi needed urgent medical care.
Initially, he did not reveal the hospital's name but later suggested it was the 37 Military Hospital. However, when he arrived there, he could not find Wontumi.
Social media reactions were mixed following this news. Some users expressed concern for his health while others questioned its authenticity. Past incidents led some to believe it might be a tactic.
Comments included jokes and skepticism about his condition. One user remarked on his past behavior while another wondered if he would stay in the hospital forever.
In another video, Chairman Wontumi made an emotional appeal for help. He claimed political persecution from President John Mahama’s administration had frozen his bank accounts and seized properties.
Wontumi stated that this situation affected his family significantly. He is struggling to support his children's education and daily needs. He called on Ghanaians to speak out against what he sees as injustice.
