The government aims to restore macroeconomic stability and debt sustainability. It plans to achieve this through strong structural reforms. The goal is to create inclusive growth and job opportunities while protecting the vulnerable.
Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson stated that the government is committed to this program. He emphasized that they will overcome challenges in implementation.
After an International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission, Dr. Forson addressed the press. He noted that some benchmarks were missed when the government took office. However, they have worked hard to improve the situation and speed up reforms.
He mentioned that bold measures are in place for 2024. These measures aim to address a large payable build-up and primary deficit.
The measures include auditing payables with the Auditor General and two international firms. They will validate legitimacy and provide recommendations for corrections. Additionally, an amendment to the Procurement Act will require Finance Minister approval for central government procurement.
In conclusion, Dr. Forson assured Ghanaians and stakeholders of his commitment. He will lead efforts to meet all commitments necessary for IMF approval of the 4th Review.
