British-Ghanaian singer Fuse ODG has released We Know It's Christmas (Band Aid Reply) as a response to Band Aid's Do They Know It's Christmas?, criticizing the original for perpetuating harmful African stereotypes.
Fuse aims to celebrate African progress, pride, and self-reliance through Afrobeats, highlighting Africa as a thriving hub rather than a region defined by poverty and aid.
Proceeds from the song will support the New Africa Growth and Relief Fund, promoting economic independence.
He rejected participation in the 2014 Band Aid remake, arguing it stifled Africa’s growth and tourism.
Bob Geldof, a Band Aid founder, acknowledged the evolving perspectives but defended the project’s intentions, emphasizing the need for continued dialogue on addressing global crises.
