Denis Miracles Aboagye is the Communications Director for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. He cautioned against politicizing illegal mining, known as galamsey. He warned that this could hinder efforts to solve the problem.
Aboagye spoke on the JoyNews AM Show. He described the situation as a national crisis. It requires a unified and strategic approach.
"Galamsey is a social canker," he said. "If you politicize it, the country will suffer." He urged caution in how galamsey is discussed politically.
He acknowledged the severity of illegal mining. However, he blamed President John Mahama and the NDC for not acting effectively.
"Sometimes I feel like laughing at them," Aboagye said about the current government's struggles with galamsey.
He criticized Mahama for his campaign promises regarding illegal miners. "He said he would release all galamseyers if elected," Aboagye claimed.
His comments reflect growing public frustration over illegal mining activities. These activities continue to cause significant environmental damage despite political pledges to address them.
