Wode Maya Tours Nelson Mandela's Cell on Robben Island

Ghanaian YouTuber Wode Maya recently visited Nelson Mandela's cell on Robben Island. He shared a video showing the conditions of the cell where Mandela spent 18 years. The prison cell appeared well-kept, surprising many viewers.

In his TikTok video, Wode Maya highlighted that Mandela was imprisoned there for 18 years. He also showed other prison cells and the walkway leading to Mandela's cell. Unfortunately, during this visit, the cell was locked.

Previously, Wode Maya had entered the cell when it was open to tourists. He filmed the thin mat where Mandela slept, noting its small size. Due to his height, Mandela had to sleep diagonally.

Many viewers reacted to Wode Maya's video with awe. Some compared the cell to a hotel room due to its condition. Others corrected him about Mandela’s imprisonment duration, stating he served 27 years instead of 18.

Research confirms that Mandela spent 18 of those 27 years on Robben Island. He was transferred from Pretoria in 1964 and remained until 1982.

Social media users shared their thoughts on Wode Maya's video:

- John Chan Angok commented: "Nelson Mandela was in prison for 27 years."
- Francis Afelik joked: "Bro, Mandela was in a hotel not prison!"
- DAVID LUSAKHA ???????? added: "It's 27 years not 18 unless you mean someone else."
- DJ K.A. suggested he visit Bawku for tourist sites.
- Another user remarked about Africa following Western trends.

In another recent post, Wode Maya expressed excitement over buying waakye in Burkina Faso for just GH₵2. He enjoyed this popular West African dish at an affordable price compared to Ghana.

His experience sparked discussions about food prices across Africa. Many netizens humorously asked him to bring back some "Burkina Faso Waakye."
