A women's group in the Central Region is protesting. They believe the move to remove Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo is unfair.
On March 28, the President wrote to the Chief Justice. He asked her to respond to three petitions for her removal. These petitions allege misconduct.
The group's spokesperson, Vivian Gassor, expressed their concerns. She warned that this process threatens judicial independence. It also shows a troubling pattern in how women leaders are treated.
Gassor called on the Council of State for support. She urged them to prevent this removal process without hesitation.
Meanwhile, the Chief Justice submitted her response to the President. She did this after the ten-day deadline expired on April 7.
The petitions were received by the President last month. They have sparked national attention and legal debates about proper procedures for such cases.
