Yvonne Nelson opens up about challenges she faced in the movie industry

Yvonne Nelson's Challenges in the Film Industry

Yvonne Nelson is an actress and movie producer. She recently shared her struggles in the film industry. According to her, the Film Producers Association of Ghana (FIPAG) tried to sabotage her career.

Yvonne believes her outspoken nature led to her ban by FIPAG. She discussed this on The Career Trail program on JoyNews and Joy Learning TV.

“I was banned by a group of men in the industry,” she said. “They call themselves FIPAG. Something happened on set, and they got together.”

She added, “When you are a woman and vocal, people don’t like that.” Yvonne felt that others thought she was complaining too much about issues.

“They wanted to intimidate me and silence me as a young girl,” she explained. After the ban, Yvonne started her own production company called ‘YN Productions’.

She received support from people like Kelvin Kobiri, who now works in ministry. “I decided I could produce my own movies,” she said.

Yvonne faced significant challenges while pursuing her dreams. One major setback occurred when armed robbers stole her first production during editing.

“The first production got stolen after editing,” she recalled. “We lost everything we had shot.” She believes it was sabotage related to her ban from FIPAG.

Despite these obstacles, Yvonne and her team reshot the entire production at great cost. Thanks to her resilience, she has produced 14 movies so far.

Some of these include *Kotoka*, *Heels and Sneakers*, among others. Yvonne also mentioned that her upcoming movie, *Summer*, will be released soon.

Reflecting on her journey, Yvonne acknowledged the difficulties she's faced in the industry. “I have seen hate, greatness, and goodness,” she stated.

“It can be a toxic place,” she added. “If you are not strong enough, you won’t last.”
