DJ Awana: Popular Adom FM Disc Jockey Reportedly Passes Away

Ghanaian disc jockey DJ Awana has reportedly passed away. He died after a short illness. His death was announced by artist manager Nana Poku Ashis. Many Ghanaians, including industry colleagues, mourned him on social media.

Samuel Tei Mensah Nartey, known as DJ Awana, was well-loved in the entertainment scene. The news of his passing emerged on April 6, 2025. This sparked grief among fans and fellow artists alike. Nana Poku Ashis shared a heartfelt tribute online, highlighting DJ Awana’s achievements.

Ashis expressed his intention to continue a project they had started together. He wrote, "Rest in power, my friend." Other media personalities like Nana Yaa Konadu Yiadom and DJ Ashmen also paid their respects online.

Adom FM confirmed that DJ Awana passed away at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra. His employers expressed their sorrow over his loss.

DJ Awana began his career at Adom FM in 2003. He quickly became a prominent figure in Ghana's media and live events. In 2007, he left Adom FM for Oman FM but later returned to Hitz FM.

He was famous for his signature jingle, “3y3 Awana nie oo.” Many Ghanaians took to social media to express their sadness over his passing.

Comments included heartfelt messages from fans who cherished his work. One user said he "hardly spoke but his selections made the heart rejoice." Another called him a valuable asset who served well.

Earlier news reported the passing of blogger Adwenpahene as well. His cause of death is still unknown; he left behind a wife and five children.
