Kwadwo Sheldon Criticizes Sam George Over Data Costs
Kwadwo Sheldon has called out Sam George, the Minister of Communications. He criticized George for not addressing high data and voice tariffs in Ghana.
Sheldon referenced a 2019 tweet from George. In that tweet, George expressed concern about rising telecom costs under the previous government. He accused that administration of ignoring global efforts to lower prices.
On May 15, 2025, Sheldon questioned why George has remained silent since taking office. He suggested that the minister has stopped speaking out against these issues.
Sam George was sworn in earlier this year. He announced plans to create an inter-ministerial committee to address high data costs. This committee will work with telecom companies and regulators to find solutions.
George assured Ghanaians that changes would come before the end of the year. He mentioned meeting with ministry officials and telecom CEOs for input on policies.
Despite these assurances, Sheldon believes there has been no real progress. He reminded George of his past criticisms and asked why he is now quiet while prices remain high.
In 2018, Sam George criticized the previous administration for increasing tariffs. He blamed tax policies introduced by President Akufo-Addo and the Finance Minister for pushing extra costs onto Ghanaians.
Social media users reacted to Sheldon's comments. One user urged patience with Sam George after just five months in office. Another user noted that George spoke frequently while in opposition but has been quiet since being elected.
