John Dumelo Kneels Before Otumfuo at Museum Launch, Gains Praise

Ghanaian actor and politician John Dumelo received praise for kneeling before Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. This occurred during the launch of Osei Kwame Despite's car museum. Dumelo attended the event with his wife, Gifty Mawuenya.

The launch took place on Sunday, June 1, 2025, in East Legon, Accra. Businessman Despite created the museum to showcase classic and vintage cars. It aims to attract car lovers from Ghana and beyond.

In a video shared online, Dumelo arrived with his wife. They approached the Asantehene, who was seated next to former President John Kufuor. Dumelo knelt down to greet the king respectfully.

This gesture is customary in Ghanaian culture when meeting chiefs. It shows respect for their role as land custodians. Many Ghanaians appreciated Dumelo's display of humility and respect for Ashanti traditions.

Some social media users suggested he should run for president in the future. Dumelo won the Ayawaso West Wuogon Parliamentary seat in 2024 elections. He currently serves as Deputy Minister for Agriculture under the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Reactions poured in after the video of him kneeling went viral. Comments included calls for him to lead Ghana someday and praises for his leadership qualities.

Earlier that same day, Dumelo also knelt before a pastor during a church service in his constituency. He received a warm welcome from congregants at the Church of Pentecost event.
