"He looks ordinary now": Akufo-Addo attends funeral with Afenyo, GH reacts

**Akufo-Addo and Afenyo-Markin Attend Sonia Puli's Funeral**

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo attended the funeral of Ambassador Simon Sonia Puli on March 27, 2025. He was seen interacting with Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin during the ceremony. The event featured a choir performing hymns.

Many prominent figures from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) were present. This included Afenyo-Markin, the MP for Effutu, and Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, former Minister for Foreign Affairs. The funeral took place inside a church.

In a video shared online, Akufo-Addo and Afenyo-Markin enjoyed the music together. They nodded their heads in rhythm while seated close to each other. They were there to honor Simon Sonia Puli, who served as an ambassador under former President Jerry John Rawlings.

Later, Afenyo-Markin and Botchwey engaged in friendly conversation, sharing laughter. Akufo-Addo's appearance at this funeral was notable since he has rarely been seen publicly since leaving office.

He last appeared at Ghana's 68th Independence Day celebration on March 6, 2025. This marked his first return to the presidency since handing over power in January after the December elections.

At that event, he greeted several dignitaries including former President John Kofi Agyekum Kufuor and others. He also attended a remembrance service for Dr. Joseph Boakye Danquah in Kyebi.

Social media users reacted to Akufo-Addo’s appearance at the funeral. Comments varied from observations about his ordinary look to remarks about his demeanor.

Earlier reports noted that Afenyo-Markin sang the NPP anthem with party executives during a meeting in his office. They encouraged him to address constituency issues in parliament.

The video of their singing received attention on social media as well.
