Kwaku Manu Reacts to Chairman Wontumi’s Arrest
Kwaku Manu, a Kumawood actor, reacted to Chairman Wontumi's arrest. This occurred on May 27, 2025, by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO). He discussed Wontumi's alleged crimes and advised political supporters against street protests.
Chairman Wontumi, also known as Bernard Antwi Boasiako, is the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He was arrested after being invited for questioning at the Police Headquarters in Accra. Reports indicate he faces charges related to illegal mining and a $55 million fraud case involving his company, Akonta Mining.
In his reaction, Kwaku Manu referenced President Mahama's promise to combat corruption. He noted that many political figures have been detained since the NDC returned to power in 2024. Some former officials are accused of embezzling funds meant for national development.
Kwaku Manu stated that Chairman Wontumi currently faces four criminal cases. He questioned why young people protest for politicians during legal inquiries. He urged them to consider their families' well-being before joining protests.
He advised Wontumi's supporters to let him go through the legal process without risking their safety. Kwaku also criticized Wontumi for past insults directed at President Mahama and Vice-President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang.
Social media users reacted to Kwaku Manu’s comments. One user praised his message while another criticized those protesting for politicians they don’t know personally.
Earlier, Kwame A-Plus mocked Chairman Wontumi following his arrest by sharing an old video of him speaking on radio. This response sparked further reactions online.
