ACP Kofi Sarpong Recalls Selling Kenkey as a Teenager to Fund Education

ACP Kofi Sarpong has shared his story of selling kenkey as a teenager. He did this to finance his education. The gospel singer spoke about his humble beginnings and the challenges he faced.

In a recent video, he discussed his rise to success. His story has gained significant attention on social media.

Kofi Sarpong explained that life was tough for his family. He often faced expulsion from school due to unpaid fees. At 13, he learned how to cook kenkey to help support his mother.

He told Joy Learning's *The Career Trail*, “I decided to help myself.” He became skilled in preparing various types of kenkey. He sold it until he reached Secondary School Form 5.

Balancing work and school was not easy for him. Sometimes, he sold at lorry parks and hid from classmates. Despite this, they would still see him selling kenkey.

His story has sparked reactions from Ghanaians online. Kwadwo Kyeremeh Ampaabeng noted that he is well-known for his mother's sugar kenkey, "Asikyire Dokono."

Karimu Sulemana commented on the privilege of selling kenkey compared to others who struggled more. Wadud Abdul Rahman humorously suggested some people exaggerate their hardships.

Citizen Botwe Ankasa remarked that few prominent Ghanaians have shared similar struggles in life.

Recently, ACP Kofi Sarpong was also seen dancing Adowa at an event. Many are unaware of his dancing talent. In videos, he entertained guests with traditional dance moves.

Adowa is a Ghanaian dance style performed by the Akans. It allows performers to express emotions through movement.
