"It's good": Waddle backs John Mahama's decision to pardon Sammy Gyamfi

Criss Waddle Supports John Mahama’s Pardon of Sammy Gyamfi

Ghanaian rapper Criss Waddle has backed President John Mahama's decision to pardon Sammy Gyamfi. This follows the backlash over Gyamfi's dollar gift to controversial preacher Nana Agradaa.

Waddle praised Gyamfi for his role as CEO of the Ghana Gold Board. He noted that Gyamfi has helped stabilize the cedi against the dollar. A video showing Gyamfi giving cash to Agradaa went viral, sparking criticism.

Despite this, President Mahama chose not to discipline Gyamfi. Government spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu stated that Gyamfi had apologized and received a warning from the Chief of Staff. The presidency decided no further action was necessary.

In a social media post, Waddle argued that Gyamfi should continue his work. He highlighted the recent appreciation of the cedi as evidence of Gyamfi's effectiveness. Previously, the dollar traded at GHS15-16 but now is around GHS12.50.

The dollar-gifting incident occurred on May 10, 2025, during a funeral event for Prophet Nigel Gaisie's father. Both Gyamfi and Agradaa were present when he made the gift. Gyamfi later explained that it was an act of kindness, not meant for public attention.

Following the pardon, Agradaa expressed her gratitude in an emotional church service. She felt that her prayers for Gyamfi had been answered with this decision. The public outcry over the incident led to calls for disciplinary measures against him.

However, acknowledging his apology and warning him about future conduct, the presidency opted against punishment.
