The 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) is approaching. Fans eagerly await the Artiste of the Year category. This year’s nominees include King Paluta, Stonebwoy, and Black Sherif. The ceremony will take place on May 10.

YEN.com.gh has compiled a list of all winners from 1999 to 2024. The award recognizes the most impactful artiste each year. It has been a highlight of Ghana’s music industry since its inception in 1999.

The first winner was Akyeame in 1999, a pioneering hiplife duo. Daddy Lumba won in 2000 with his album *Aben Wo Ha*. Kojo Antwi took home the award in 2001 for his romantic highlife music. In 2002, Lord Kenya won with his unique rap style.

Kontihene won in 2003 with his album *Nyankonton*, solidifying hiplife's mainstream presence. VIP (now VVIP) followed in 2004 with their hit *Ahomka Womu*. Bice Osei Kuffour (Obour) secured the award in 2005 for socially conscious songs like *Konkontiba*. Ofori Amponsah won in 2006 after his album *Otoolege* became popular.

VIP won again in 2011, while R2Bees took home the award in 2013 for *Refuse to Be Broke*. Shatta Wale won in 2014 with his hit *Dancehall King*. Stonebwoy claimed victory in 2015 with his album *Necessary Evil* and single "Baafira".

E.L received the award in 2016 for his BAR mixtapes. Joe Mettle made history as the first gospel artist to win in 2017. Ebony Reigns was posthumously awarded for her album *Bonyfied* in 2018.

No winner was announced in 2019 due to an incident at the event. Kuami Eugene took the crown in 2020 with *Son of Africa*. Diana Hamilton won in 2021 for her song *Adom (Grace)*, followed by KiDi's win for global hit *Touch It* in 2022.

Black Sherif won Artiste of the Year last year with *The Villain I Never Was*. Stonebwoy secured a second win last year with his album *5th Dimension*.

For this year's awards, nominees include King Paluta, Team Eternity, King Promise, Black Sherif, Stonebwoy, Kweku Smoke, and Joe Mettle. There is much debate about who deserves to win.

King Paluta recently criticized DJ Slim's comments about deserving nominees. DJ Slim stated that only Stonebwoy and King Promise should be considered this year. In response, King Paluta argued that awards should reflect measurable achievements rather than public relations efforts.
