Ghanaian Man to Swim from Accra to the USA: Seidu Dauda Bayigo's GWR Swimathon Attempt
Ghanaian content creator Dauda Seidu Bayigo plans to set a new Guinness World Record. He aims for the longest swimming marathon by an individual.
Bayigo will swim from Ghana to the United States on June 6, 2025. This journey covers about 9,898 kilometers (around 6,145 miles). He shared his plans on TikTok, asking for community support.
The young athlete hopes to inspire swimmers and adventurers worldwide. However, social media reactions have been mixed regarding his ambitious goal.
Some users made humorous comments about his attempt. One user joked about sharks seeing his post. Another mentioned that shipping takes months and questioned Bayigo's safety.
Dauda has been training in open water for this challenge. Recent videos show fans cheering him on during practice sessions. He is determined and ready for this monumental task.
If successful, he would break several high-profile swimming records. Currently, Spanish swimmer Pablo Fernández holds the record of 250 kilometers (155.34 miles) swum in Miami in July 2021.
Bayigo also aims to surpass Tunisian swimmer Nejib Belhedi’s record of continuous swimming for over 76 hours covering approximately 120 kilometers (75 miles). Additionally, he seeks to break Croatian swimmer Veljko Rogošić's record of 225 kilometers (139.8 miles) across the Adriatic Sea in August 2006.
His journey symbolizes resilience and determination against challenges. As he prepares for this unprecedented swim, he invites individuals and organizations to support him.
This moment is significant not just for Bayigo but also for Ghanaian sports on an international level.
