Ghanaian highlife artist Kuami Eugene has made a request to President John Dramani Mahama. He wants the president to help stabilize the cedi's appreciation against the dollar.
In a social media post, Kuami expressed concern about his dollar reserves. He wrote, "We beg Pres. John Mahama for slow down small, my dollar reserves all dey go waste."
Despite this, he also shared mixed feelings about the cedi's performance. He said, “I’m happy and sad at the same time.”
Meanwhile, Ghanaian actor Van Vicker praised President Mahama for stabilizing the cedi. On May 28, 2025, he posted on Facebook to commend the president.
He urged Ghanaians to recognize the cedi's appreciation against the dollar. “Mr. President, I must congratulate you on the strengthening of the Ghana cedis on the world market. Ayekoo,” he wrote.
Van Vicker mentioned various theories explaining this improvement in value. He noted that today’s exchange rate is approximately GHC 11 to $1, compared to GHC 17 a few months ago.
He cautioned against negativity from some Ghanaians abroad regarding this change. "This is not a political statement," he clarified. "It is an acknowledgment of a good job done so far."
Van Vicker emphasized that credit should be given where it is due. He expressed optimism about the current value of the cedi and its sustainability.
He concluded by saying that if things continue well, it could lead to even better times for Ghana under President Mahama’s leadership.
