Captain Smart Calls for Ban on Foreign Telenovelas in Ghana
On April 14, 2025, Captain Smart urged a ban on foreign soap operas. He made this call during his Onua Maakye show on Onua TV.
Captain Smart criticized local stations like Adom TV and UTV. He said they should stop airing telenovelas and invest in Ghanaian films instead.
He argued that it is senseless for Ghanaians to voice over foreign shows. He pointed out that local movies are not shown abroad.
Smart revealed that some stations spend $150,000 for telenovela rights. He suggested they use this money to support the Ghallywood and Kumawood industries.
He believes investing in local films would benefit actors like Lil Win and Emelia Brobbey. Many social media users supported his views, agreeing with his criticisms.
Some comments included praise for his honesty about the movie industry’s struggles. Others encouraged him to share these thoughts with the President.
Earlier, Captain Smart also criticized Nana Poleey's family regarding their treatment of the late supporter’s family. His remarks sparked mixed reactions online from Ghanaians.
