Yvonne Nelson Speaks Against Physical Punishment in Schools
Yvonne Nelson has criticized schools that use physical punishment on children. She believes no one should touch another person's child. Speaking to Joy News, she emphasized that discipline should come from parents.
At her school, Yvonne Nelson International School (YNIS), teachers cannot hit students. She explained that the school has rules to protect children from such treatment. Discipline at YNIS involves time-outs and counseling instead of physical punishment.
Yvonne expressed confusion over why some schools still hit children. She noted that physical punishment can harm kids emotionally. Her school aims to provide a safe learning environment without resorting to violence.
In 2023, Yvonne expanded her preschool into a primary and junior high school. The school's motto is "quintessential education," focusing on quality learning.
Building the school was challenging for Yvonne. In a viral video, she shared that she sold her house to fund it after facing high loan interest rates.
Social media users reacted to her comments. Some highlighted the lack of infrastructure in many schools. Others agreed that caning does not improve education or behavior in children.
Yvonne also teaches art at her school, engaging with students positively. A recent video showed her inspiring kids to draw, which resonated well with Ghanaians who admired her teaching approach.
