The Tafo Pankrono Divisional Police Command has arrested a 16-year-old student. He is from Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School (OKESS). The arrest was made for unlawful possession of a firearm.
The student, a form two boarder, remains unnamed due to his age. He was caught on Tuesday, May 14, 2025. School authorities found the weapon during a routine dormitory search at 9:30 a.m. They then handed him over to the police for investigation.
According to DSP Godwin Ahianyo from the Ashanti Regional Police Public Affairs Unit, the student claimed the firearm belonged to his stepfather. The stepfather, Mr. Daniel Owusu Baafi, was arrested on Thursday, May 15, 2025.
Both the student and Mr. Baafi have been granted police enquiry bail. They are scheduled to report back to the police on Monday, May 19, 2025.
This incident has raised concerns among parents and the school community about safety. Authorities are taking measures to ensure security for students and staff. The case is being handled by the Tafo Pankrono Divisional Police Command.
