Security expert Prof. Kwesi Aning has called the Bawku conflict a national issue. He stated that the violence now threatens the security of all Ghana.
On JoyNews' AM Show, he emphasized that this unrest is not just local.
"This is not a Bawku conflict; it’s a Ghana conflict," he said. He noted that it has regional implications and connections.
Prof. Aning pointed out that those benefiting from the violence are not in Bawku. He urged for an immediate national response to reduce tensions and restore peace.
He believes the State must act decisively, beyond temporary military deployments. "We need to understand the network and use available intelligence," he added.
"This is Ghana's problem and increasingly a West African problem," he said.
The Bawku conflict stems from long-standing ethnic and chieftaincy disputes. It has led to casualties, displacement, and increased security concerns.
Recently, on April 13, three people were killed, including two young police officers.
