Citizen Eye Ghana (CITEG) has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of bias. They claim this favoritism is towards Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. This accusation follows the party's 2024 presidential primaries.
In a letter dated April 22, 2025, CITEG addressed NPP National Chairman Stephen Ntim. They stated that the party is compromising its neutrality. CITEG argues that official party resources are being used to promote Dr. Bawumia. However, the party has not yet declared an official presidential candidate.
"The NPP currently has no presidential candidate," the letter said. "Yet, through this tour, the party seems to crown Bawumia unofficially."
CITEG expressed concerns about the Thank You tour's structure. They argue it focuses too much on Dr. Bawumia and ignores other contenders like Kennedy Agyapong and Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto.
The group stated, "Using party resources to boost one aspirant is unfair." They believe this approach undermines democracy within the party.
CITEG warned that such actions could harm party unity and integrity before the 2028 elections. The petition was also sent to former Presidents Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and John Agyekum Kufuor.
It was shared with members of the NPP Council of Elders and notable aspirants from recent primaries. CITEG urged party leaders to act as "neutral referees" in selecting a flagbearer.
They cautioned that any perceived bias would be rejected by voters.
