The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, visited the CID Headquarters today. He went there following an invitation from the Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
This meeting took place on Monday, May 26, 2025, around midday. The Ghana Police Service (GPS) confirmed this in a statement. The statement was signed by Superintendent Joseph Benefo Darkwah, Head of Public Affairs Unit (CID).
Chairman Wontumi was accompanied by a team of lawyers. This team was led by former Attorney General Mr. Godfred Dame.
The CID's statement mentioned three alleged allegations against him:
1. Mining without a license
2. Polluting water bodies
3. Entering a forest reserve without permission
Mr. Antwi-Boasiako cooperated with the police during the investigation. After giving his statement, he was granted bail. He is required to report back to the police at 3 PM tomorrow, Tuesday, May 27, 2025.
The CID assured that further developments will be communicated to the public.
