Court adjourns case against Bishop Amoako and wife to Feb. 17

The case against Bishop Elijah Salifu Amoako, his wife Mouha, and Linda Bonsu Bempah has been postponed. An Accra Circuit Court set the new date for February 17, 2025.

During a hearing on Monday, both sides discussed the case with the judge. The three are charged with allowing their unlicensed minor son to drive. They were arrested after an accident involving their 16-year-old son, Elrad Amoako.

The crash happened on October 12, 2024, in East Legon. It resulted in the deaths of two 12-year-old girls. The accused have pleaded not guilty and are out on GHC50,000 bail each.

On October 12, during Elrad’s brother Elyon’s birthday celebration, Linda gave him car keys. She knew he was underage and unlicensed to drive their Jaguar SUV. Elrad drove with his friend Prince Tijani towards Bawleshie on Dzanie Ashie Street.

At a junction, he collided with an Acura vehicle occupied by Justine Agbenu and Maame Dwomoh Boateng. The impact caused both vehicles to crash into a house and catch fire. Tragically, the two girls were trapped inside and died.

Elrad and two others were injured and taken to the University of Ghana Medical Centre. He faced separate charges at an Accra Juvenile Court where he pleaded guilty to eight charges including manslaughter.

He received a six-month sentence at the Senior Correctional Home for his actions. During investigations, Bishop Amoako and his wife admitted they had let Elrad drive before in their neighborhood.

The Circuit Court trial will determine their responsibility for this tragic incident. The next hearing is scheduled for February 17, 2025.
