E/R: Koforidua Technical Institute sacks 10 final-year students over lateness to Assembly

Ten final-year students at Koforidua Technical Institute (KOTECH) have been dismissed. They were reportedly late to the Assembly grounds from their dormitories. This has raised concerns about their academic future.

The students are barred from taking their ongoing mock exams. This could greatly affect their preparation for the final exams. Sources say this decision is part of disciplinary measures for order and punctuality.

Parents, education advocates, and students question the severity of the punishment. Mr. Orlando, KOTECH's Vice Principal, confirmed the action but offered no further details. He did not mention if any alternative solutions are being considered.

The affected students have appealed to the Ghana Education Service (GES). They seek a second chance to take the mock exams and continue their studies. One student stated, “We believe the punishment is too harsh with finals approaching.”

Education stakeholders urge school authorities and GES to find a balance. They emphasize that discipline should not hinder academic progress for final-year students. The GES has not yet officially responded to this issue.
