East Legon accident: See details of suspect driver Elrad Amoako's 6-month sentencing

The Accra Central Juvenile Court has sentenced Elrad Amoako to six months in custody.

Elrad, 16 years old, faced four charges with eight counts. He was charged with manslaughter for the deaths of Justine Agbenu and Maame Dwomah Boateng.

He also faced charges for negligently causing harm to driver Joseph Ackah and passengers Berla and Kendra Boateng. Dangerous driving was another charge against him. Additionally, he was charged for damaging a GHS10,500 light pole owned by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

The last charge was for driving without a valid license. Elrad changed his plea and pleaded guilty this time.

He will serve his sentence at the senior corrections center for six months. He must report to a probation officer every Friday. Elrad signed an agreement not to drive until he turns 18.

Elrad’s parents, Bishop Salifu Amoako and Mouha, were fined 500 penalty units, which is GHS6,000. Bishop Salifu Amoako will also pay GHS8,000 for the damaged light pole.

In a separate case, Bishop Salifu Amoako, Mouha, and personal assistant Linda Bempah will return to court on January 13, 2025. They are being charged with allowing a minor to drive without a license.

The prosecution stated they have new findings from their investigation and wish to amend the charges.
