The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has formed a 13-member steering committee. This committee will review the curriculum from kindergarten to primary six. Their main goal is to correct distortions in Ghana's political history. They will also promote responsible citizenship.
During the commissioning ceremony, Mr. Iddrisu highlighted the need for truth and integrity in education. He urged the committee to accurately present Ghana’s political history. He emphasized Dr. Kwame Nkrumah's significant contributions to independence.
His remarks addressed concerns about the previous administration's portrayal of history. Critics say they downplayed Dr. Nkrumah’s role while promoting others like J.B. Danquah as co-founders of the nation.
“This curriculum review must restore our true national identity,” said Mr. Iddrisu. He wants children to learn the right sense of history.
In addition to historical accuracy, he tasked the committee with including digital innovation and ethics in education. The revised curriculum should foster critical thinking and produce responsible citizens.
The committee consists of experts in education and curriculum development. They will conduct a thorough review process aligned with modern educational standards and national goals.
The Education Ministry promises that stakeholder engagement will be crucial during this review process. This approach aims for inclusivity and national consensus.
