Forestry Commission arrests galamsey operator in Pranum forest reserve

The Akyem Oda District Office of the Forestry Commission has made an arrest.

They detained Ahmed Nuhu, an illegal mining operator. He unlawfully entered the Pranum Forest Reserve to mine.

The arrest was led by Assistant District Manager Mr. Richmond Amo-Adjei. This followed a tip-off about illegal miners near the Pra River.

Mr. Amo-Adjei and his forestry guards quickly went to the area. They found illegal miners at work but most escaped.

However, they apprehended Ahmed Nuhu, who operated an excavator. They also seized two excavators left behind in the forest.

Nuhu has been handed over to the Dwaso Police for further investigation. The police will help identify and arrest his accomplices.

Mr. Amo-Adjei spoke to the media after the arrest. He warned illegal miners to stay away from the protected Pranum Forest Reserve.

He urged nearby residents to report any suspicious activities or environmental damage.

“This forest is a no-go area for galamsey,” he stated firmly.

“We will protect it and anyone destroying our resources will face legal action.”

This arrest is part of ongoing efforts by the Forestry Commission against illegal mining. They aim to safeguard the country’s dwindling forest reserves.
